Our Homes
A Group
Home is a home in every sense of the word. Here residents
eat together, laugh together and even fight over whose turn
it is to do the dishes.
"People
who live here are MY FRIENDS." Elizabeth
M.
The first thing you'll
notice when you enter a Group Home is that it looks and feels
like home. There are comfortable couches in the living room
and a big table for everyone to gather around for meals. Every
resident has his or her own bedroom that he or she decorates
to reflect individual personality and interest.
All our homes have
been designed to be accessible to people with physical disabilities,
so that from the moment they approach the house, residents
understand that their home has been designed for them.
"I
want my own apartment someday. The staff will help me out." Mary Beth B.
Group homes are scattered around Forsyth and Stokes counties
in residential middle class neighborhoods.
Each group home has a full-time Manager in Charge who functions
as the "head of the house." When residents are involved
in special activities, two other staff members are usually
brought in to help out. Residents always have 24-hour staff
assistance
and supervision.
Our staff members are people who have a special vocation to
work with the developmentally disabled. They attend frequent
workshops, seminars and training programs to help them grow
in their challenging field.
Supported Living Services for Adults with Developmental Disabilities.
People in our Transitional Apartment Program enjoy the same
individualized approach as in our group homes. Some may require
weekly help with cooking or grocery shopping. Others may need
help only once a month to pay bills. A few people go on to
home ownership and complete independence.
