Our Program
Being
part
of a community is as basic a human need as food, shelter
and clothing. Forming relationships, sharing experiences
and being accepted for who we are, are the essentials of
a rich and fully realized life.
Group Homes of Forsyth,
Inc. is a private non-profit corporation that is dedicated
to helping adults with developmental disabilities and their
families realize that dream.
We were established
in 1974. In 1975, we opened our first group home and became
a contract agency with Forsyth/Stokes Mental health Authority.
We became an accredited United Way member in January 1982.
The cornerstone of
our program is the belief that people with developmental
disabilities must be allowed to fulfill their destinies in
their own way,
at their own pace and acording to their own personalities.
Individual counseling, guidence, training and support programs
are the
tools that support them on their journey.
Having a community
based program encourages family members, guardians and people
at other agencies with whom the resident is involved to participate
in this process as well. Periodic evaluations determine each
resident's progress toward particular goals.
For all of our residents,
group homes are a chance to acquire new skills, make friends,
investigate their interests and stretch their boundaries within
a comfortable, supportive family.
