Our Residents
All
of our residents experience the challenges and joys that
come from living together as a family. Each resident is responsible
for maintaining his own bedroom as well as attending to various
household chores.
During the
day residents go to work--to sheltered workshops or to regular
employment in area businesses and agencies--depending on their
abilities. Many of them experience the pride of earning a living
for the first time. At the end of the day, they return home
to a place that is familar, warm and welcoming.
This is not to say
that life in a group home is all work and no play. Residents
are
urged to go out into their communities by attending church
services, pursuing hobbies, attending classes, playing sports
and learning new skills. Many of our residents train for the
Special Olympics. Their participation is the highlight of a
year of hard work.
Periodic physical
and dental exams are part of every resident's care. Medications
are administered only with the written authority of the resident's
physician and are kept in a secure part of the home. Residents
who can supervise their own medications are given the training
to do so.
Speech therapy, psychological
or psychiatric treatment and physical therapy are avaiable
when needed through community service programs.
